Curiously Ubiquitous

The first day of summer is June 21st, another summer and another year.

While I look forward to the sun, the beach, and the cool summer night drives, I’m not looking forward to getting older.
I need to press play on life, on a new job, on love. The hard part is finding a way.

Anyways back to cleaning. Hope you have a great day!

Peace be with you!

Good Morning!

Do you like to read? Do you find your day and troubles fade into the background when you get lost in a good story? Me too!

Currently, I’m reading through my back library of Audiobooks on Audible. I will regularly flip between a few books, currently I’m on Steve Jobs, by Walter Isaacson.
He was smart, inciteful, and a complete jerk.

Peace be with you.

Help Where You Can

Good Evening Everyone!

I don’t know how many of you know how I got started with SPJA/AX but felt like its a good time to tell that story.

In 2002, I had just left a job to come up to Long Beach to join some friends who were competing in the AMV contest. (Tag: Troy & Peter) Now I personally have very little skill when it comes to editing music videos, but I very much enjoyed the works of others. On the way up to Long Beach, I crashed my car on the 710 interchange bridge. Hurray! So I had a friend come pick me up and spent the whole weekend, slightly depressed while still trying to enjoy the event. So that’s the initial exposure. Flash forward 2 years to 2004, and Troy Williams calls me up and asks me if I would like to staff the con. I felt special! Little did I know that the convention always needs more people to feed the meat grinder.  🙂

Year 1  – I was staff for AVS in Workshops 2, running a soundboard with Carl Vincent. (Hi Vyrus) Shenanigans ensued, as would be customary for us two and my involvement was almost over before it even got started.
Years 2-6 – I don’t know how or why, but I was invited back over and over often with a promotion of some kind.
Year 7 “2007” – Ah the magical year. I being of sound body and mind, volunteered to serve on the SPJA Board of Directors. It was a crash course in life. While I won’t go too deeply into all the took place, the SPJA has always been made up of people who believed they were doing what was best for the company. Even if it hurt it, more than it helped. (Myself included)
Year 8 – Good luck Truly!
Year 9 – Goodbye old friend Truly, you will forever be missed.
Year 10 – Acting CEO. My gosh, we are still alive.
Year 11 – Lattanzio, nothing else needs to be said.
Year 10 – Help, we are drowning. Too many people to thank, AX would not be around if it were not for so many people who gave so much. While we don’t all talk anymore, I’m still thankful for all that was given.
Year 11 – Very good year, huge growth. Able to pull out from crushing debt to now just huge debt. The beginning of the end for me.
Year 12 – Another amazing year. Stress really started to ratchet up for me. I did … ok but I destroyed so many things. Things got better, but so many wrong choices by so many people, mainly myself.
Year 13 – Hitting my stride, a personal loss, but the show really grew up. Bye, bye debt.
Year 14 – My finest year. Things were all going in the same direction, things really looked great.
Year 15 – The stress is back & hello new board members.
Year 16 – The end has arrived, still so hard to give it up. I have a bit of an idea of how Mike T feels.

Today marks my 2-year anniversary of being gone from the SPJA. It has changed leadership twice since I left, hopefully, things will get better. I know many of you have moved on, and quite of few of you have been let go as well. I hope you all make your peace with your time there and appreciate the work we put in and really see the thing for what it is. The joy, the life, the love we shared, the thing that we made our own and while it will change, that you have forever left an indelible mark. It will always be a magical weekend for me. I miss it like nothing else. Life has its ups and downs, never forget who you are, what you have done and the lives you have affected. I miss you, I wish you all well and I can’t wait to talk to you again!

Peace be with you.

New Week – A New Hope

Good Morning!

The weekend was over far too quickly.
Yesterdays Easter service was nice, an outside event that was far too cold! There were a ton of people, I would guess about 3 thousand.
Even with that many bodies, it got so cold, I wanted a warm bath when I got home. Sadly, no tubs at home. Instead had a nice warm Easter dinner of ham, sweet potatoes with walnuts and Hawaiian bread.

So I don’t know how close any of you follow other cultures, but the Jewish faith during the First month of the civil year known as Tishrei or Seventh month of the Hebrew calendar, their is a day called Yom Kippur.
From Wikipedia: Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement, is the holiest day of the year in Judaism. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jewish people traditionally observe this holy day with an approximate 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services.
While not Jewish, but appreciating other cultures I learned of another Holy day,  Erev Yom Kippur.
For Erev Yom Kippur, It is customary to give increased charity as charity helps to repeal any evil decrees. Sins committed against another person cannot be atoned for until one has first sought forgiveness from the person he/she has wronged. Even the great day of Yom Kippur or death cannot atone for sins against fellow man. Thus – it is customary to go visit (or at least call) friends, family, associates and any person whom one may have somehow wronged or spoken ill of in the past year and ask forgiveness. For example, any stolen objects must be returned to their rightful owners. Any person you have spoken Loshen Hara, evil gossip, about, should be asked for their forgiveness. It is a mitzvah to immerse oneself in a mikvah (ritual bath) on Erev Yom Kippur. This symbolizes a person’s rebirth associated with the doing of Teshuvah, return. Men have this custom universally, and women have different customs concerning mikvah Erev Yom Kippur.

I take this as, before you can ask for forgiveness of others, you must forgive those who have done wrong to you. I don’t know who reads this site, but for any of you who know me personally and have done me wrong. I forgive you. While it may not be Ereve/Yom Kippur, every day is a good day to forgive others. So I forgive you all.
I hope you find peace, love, and happiness. I hope that we stay close, share moments and memories. So with that, I say, Happy Easter, a day of atonement in the Chrisitan faith.

This week starts a new experience for me, while still looking for a real career (read: higher paying job), I’m starting a job that will be a bit different. Wish me luck.

I hope that you all have a great week, get a chance to relax and enjoy each new day. Thank you for letting me share some of my life with you.

Peace be with you!

Bbq – Mans 3rd Best Friend

Do you know what my favorite food is? Well if you guessed BBQ, you would be right! I love me some BBQ.  When ever I travel, I try to hit up the local bbq favorites. I love gyuuuuuuuy and chuuuuuuuuy ribs and brisket. I love meats of all kinds; I have never had bear meat, but I love rabbit, ox, snake.

Anyways, my 3 favorite bbq places are:

1. Fat Matt’s in Atlanta

2. Gatlins in Houston

3. Hard 8 in Dallas

Close 4th place is Phil’s Bbq in San Diego. YUM!

These are more American bbq places, but I love Korean & Hawaiian bbq too. Oh and if your curious, man’s first best friend is dog and second would be the woman of his dreams!

Peace be with you!

Friday is coming to an end…

It’s almost midnight, just 33 more minutes to go and the moon in shining bright. Do you know what makes the moon’s rays so special?

They are a reflection of the Sun. So even when it seems like life is at its darkest, just wait. The moon is trying to show you that the Sun will be back. This reminds me of another phase my best friend once told me: Wait your turn.

It means, be patient. Don’t rush to the darkness. When I feel depressed at night, I look up at the moon and feel hope and love. I hope you do too.

How about some fresh waffles or terrible pancakes for breakfast?

Good night moon.

Peace be with you.

Daily Posts

Hello world of the interwebs. I am trying to ramp up my posts here as as a way to connect, to keep my head above water. I haven’t posted this often in years and I hope you continue. So sit back, relax and I hope you all enjoy a small view into my life.

I don’t have much going on compared to how it used to be, it’s challenging finding things to write about. It not like I talk to you folks, it’s a bit one way. but know I’m thankful you read my site.

One thing I am really into right now is how I miss the travel, the views, the people, the food, from green tea to wine to Chipotle to bbq, I miss it all!

From lounging on the couch in some 2 bedroom hotel room to car rides through the countryside it’s not the same being here at home all the time.

I hope you are having enjoyable adventures.

Cheers & Good Night!

Peace be with you.

“You – you alone will have the stars as no one else has them… In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing, And so it will be as if all the stars were laughing, when you look at the sky at night… You – only you – will have the stars that can laugh.” – Antoine De Saint-Exupery – “The Little Prince,”

Chipotle & Kindness

Today I witnessed three police officers be spat on by a citizen. Now I’m not sure of the context or reason for this action, but it made me sick. People need to be kind to one another.

I am reminded of a great night several years ago, that brought me great joy and made me smile!

I was at a Chipotle and three officers behind me were being so kind, so I paid for their dinner. It made me smile to see them enjoy their meal. They looked like they had a rough day and were so grateful for the bit of kindness.
I was glad to be able to have the experience to be kind, it really made my night.

I hope someone does something nice for the three officers that experienced the poor attitude of someone today.

I hope you do something kind for those who need it, I hope the world has more acts of kindness and love!

Peace be with you!
